3 Terrier Group 1st Wins & 11 Group Placements in 7 weekends shown, earned Chloe the #1 spot for 2021!
Chloe (Grand CH Darwyn’s Morningstar) is Darwyn’s 10th different Welsh Terrier to have the #1 annual breed ranking. 2021 is the 13th year that we have had the #1 Welsh Terrier in Canada.
Chloe started out 2021 as a class dog, meaning that she wasn’t yet a champion. She was trimmed and conditioned by her breeder, Larisa Hotchin, and was presented in the ring by Michelle Yeadon. Larisa had fun presenting a young puppy, Tori, and Jennifer Driessen presented a younger “sister” to Chloe, named Audrey. All 3 of these girls achieved their Championship during 2021. All 3 girls were awarded Group Placements, from the classes!
I am also proud to say that we now share Chloe with our good friend, Sonya Cornick, of Quendrith Welsh Terriers. At some point in the future, Chloe will emigrate to Australia to be part of her family. Sonya has co-owned, and loved, our special top winning dog, Parker, for many years now. She is a wonderful ambassador for the breed.
New Scent Detection Titles in 2021 also!
During 2021, Chloe and her breeder, Larisa Hotchin, also attended their first CKC Scent Detection Trial. She was entered in (and passed!):
* Instinct
* Novice Containers
* Novice Interior
* Novice Exterior
Chloe’s sire, Robbie, also attended those Scent Detection Trials with Larisa. Both of them passed their requirements for the CKC Scent Detection Novice Titles!
Scent Detection (Nose Work) is much more than simply hiding cookies in a couch cushions. It is a real team sport that develops (and uses) skills on both the dogs, and handlers. Finding a hard hide, and identifying that your dog found the hide, gives Larisa as much pleasure as being awarded a Group 1st in the show ring. It is a real exhilarating experience! Larisa has been training in this area for about 4 years now, and has trained multiple Welsh Terriers, and celebrated the successes that a number of her dog owners, in multiple countries, have seen from training in this sport. However, saying that, for now, the conformation show ring still draws more of Larisa’s time for participation. The Nose Work practice and training is primarily done for fun for the dogs. They all LOVE it.
Chloe's Sire and Dam are previous Top Welsh Terriers in Canada!
Chloe’s sire and dam have both achieved #1 Welsh Terrier Ranking in Canada in previous years. Zora was Canada’s top Welsh Terrier for 2017, and Robbie was Canada’s top Welsh Terrier for both 2019 and 2020.
Zora and Robbie are both multiple Terrier Group First Winners. Chloe’s half-sister, Tori, also a Robbie daughter, is also a multiple Terrier Group First Winner. Behind Chloe’s parents are also top winners in the show ring. This is NOT an easy feat to achieve, and something that we are very proud of here at Darwyn.
