4 puppies: 3 boys and 1 girl!
May 3, 2016Sire: Mickey (US MBISS Can CH Darwyn's Sorcerer's Apprentice)
Dam: Ella (RBIS Can CH Darwyn You Make My Heart Sing)
Here are some photos that I have taken of Ella and her puppies from her 2nd litter, born May 3, 2016. Some of these photos include Ella prior to her delivering, and in the hour or two before the first puppy was actually born! I will try to remember to add to this slide show over time. Enjoy!
Note: Some new photos were added on June 1, 2016. Puppies are 4 weeks old and they explored the front yard with Ella and Michael and Larisa for part of the sunny afternoon.
When Ella retired from the show ring in 2013, it was clear that she had many top qualities that were valuable for the breed. Not only did she have a terrific pedigree herself (both her sire and dam were top winners in both the US and Canada, and specialty winners at the famous Welsh Terrier Club of America National Specialty at Montgomery County KC), but she herself embodied wonderful characteristics.
- Beautiful head and expression
- Excellent coat with hard texture, deep black jacket and dark red furnishings
- Moderate angles and balanced front and rear
- Short back and solid topline
- Game temperament and absolutely wonderful with any and everyone that she has ever met.
- Healthy, DNA tested clear for PLL and other key health tests in the breed
- Perfect size for a girl - as a mature adult, she is 14.75 inches tall and approximately 20 pounds. Not overdone and certainly not fine boned.
We were fortunate that a family that lived close by was interested in adopting Ella and allowing her to come back to our home to have 2 litters. We knew that we wanted to breed Ella (quality girl wiht a wonderful show record), but this allowed Ella to be part of a family 3 years sooner. A 'win-win-win' situation - she could provide her quality 'genes' back into our line (and our uncommon breed), allow more families to have the joy of a good looking, healthy and enjoyable Welsh Terrier to live with, and she and her family could enjoy more time together while she was still young. We have only done this a few times, but when we choose to do it, like with Ella, we have been so happy, and it is a win-win-win situation for everyone involved. So far, it has always worked out well. In Ella's situation, a young child has become Ella's best friend.
Ella's first litter was born in June 2014. I will include a slide show of photos from that litter at the bottom of this page. I put most of those pictures on Facebook and had forgotten at the time to update my website.
Both of Ella's litters have been dream litters. There were no complications for either litter to be whelped, and she adapted to motherhood fast and without problem. She keeps her puppies very clean, well-fed and plays well with them. As with most of our 'moms', Ella is happy to see visitors around her puppies, even as early as the day after they were born. Very calm and trusts Michael and myself (Larisa) to do the right thing with her and her puppies. Puppies from Ella's first litter were healthy and from what we are seeing, we expect her second litter to also be healthy and wonderful additions to the families they go to. We are hoping to keep one here at Darwyn to carry on Ella's genes.
